So I probably should be devoting this column to the biggest night in television - the 60th Annual Emmy Awards. I should be celebrating the deserving winners, the clever hosts, or the fabulous gowns. There's just one problem: It would be absolutely impossible for me to do those things. There were no winners that I thought were particularly deserving. The hosts were just plain horrible. And without those other things, who cares who was wearing what? For the sheer fact that Lost, well, lost Best Drama after submitting one of its most emotional episodes ever in "The Constant," I refuse to waste another word on how the Emmys made me cringe. Considering my unfortunate inability to watch the season premiere of Heroes due to a VCR snafu, I have decided to devote the rest of this column to the charming new CW series Privileged.

Last week, in case you don't remember or (gasp) didn't read my column, I basically trashed the abomination that is 90210 (which incidentally got picked up for a full season by some miracle). In my attempt to avoid said show at all costs, I stayed away from the CW last Tuesday. This Tuesday however I was alone in my room, left to my own devices, and so turned on 90210 for a few laughs. Little did I know that what was to follow 90210 would be a delightful experience in the form of Privileged, another new CW series based on a popular teen novel called How to Teach the Filthy Rich.

Because the network is promoting itself as the place young women turn to for trashy entertainment - minus the trashy part - it should not be surprising that a huge part of this show involves the insanely wealthy and their extravagant escapades. The premise is that our loveable heroine Megan, played by the adorable Joanna Garcia, becomes a tutor for two insufferable teenage drama queens when they are forced to live with their grandmother after their mother's death. The plot seems hackneyed, but let me assure you that the show feels fresh. Garcia is one of the first CW heroines I can remember that is 100 percent nice instead of 50 percent nice and 50 percent bitchy. The two sisters can be a bit much at times, but the writing is snappy, almost reminiscent of Gilmore Girls wit. The second episode of Privileged shows great promise - I only wish it had been placed after Gossip Girl, or even Supernatural.
