Break was pretty awesome, eh? It was a whole month of high school friends, old stomping grounds, and home-cooked meals.
Still, whether the four weeks were spent in Los Angeles or in Omaha, there's a general consensus on campus: it's good to be back. The Green Line has never smelled better, the weather isn't as bad as everyone said it would be, and Baldwin looks like he's lost a little weight. Yeah, life sure is good here at Boston College.
But now it's time to get back into the swing of things - not just a routine for school, but also a weekend routine.
Having a whole month off can damage a student's appreciation for a weekend. It's time to do more than sleep until 2 p.m., watch Family Feud, go out with buddies at night, and then call it a day.
Let's relearn how to take advantage of those three sweet, sweet days. Here, in no particular order, are five things to do on and around campus this weekend.
First, go see a comedian. Kathy Griffin will be performing at the Berklee Performance Center tomorrow at 8 p.m. Then, on both tomorrow and Saturday, Rich Vos will be doing two shows each night at the Comedy Connection (8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.).
Vos came to fame on the show Last Comic Standing, and has since appeared multiple times on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. Griffin isn't quite as edgy as Vos; between the two of them, though, one should hit the spot.
Next, check out a play. Sight Unseen is being performed at the Robsham Theater Arts Center tomarrow and Saturday. Ten dollars is a small price to pay to see a play that has been critically acclaimed by newspapers such as The New York Times and recieved the Obie Award in 1992. It is the story of a prominent artist who visits his past lover whom he abandoned for the life he wanted.
Another must-see performance would have to be the Blue Man Group. They are performing six shows tomorrow through Sunday at the Charles Playhouse.
The group mixes funky music, crazy acts, and blue paint to create a very entertaining show. What more can be asked of performers? Tickets are $46-56 dollars at www.ticketmaster.com and are well worth the money.
Another performance to attend would be the musical rendition of the classic novel Little Women. Little Women: the Broadway Musical will be playing at the Opera House several times this weekend.
Witness the majesty of these cultural icons portrayed through the power of song. Finally, get some groceries on Sunday. There's absolutely no excuse.
It was easy at home, but unfortunately, your parents aren't here to buy Captain Crunch and snack packs for you. How can you survive without such vital staples as cereal? There's nothing wrong with having a few extra boxes of cereal around. Get out of your room and make a quick grocery run. Not only will this help prepare you for the coming week, but it will end the weekend on a filling note.
Do any number of these things, and this first weekend will help pave the road to a good semester. After all, a fun weekend is the first step to a great week.
