Thought he was just some flash-in-the pan teen heartthrob? Think again. Ryan Gosling, star of such hits as Remember the Titans and Murder by Numbers, has proved that he is more than just a pretty face. Oh yeah, he may have also been in some movie called The Notebook as well.

The Mickey Mouse Club alum returns in Fracture, a thriller in which he faces off against cinematic heavyweight Anthony Hopkins. In the film, Gosling plays a hotshot assistant district attorney who is fixated on bringing down Hopkins, a vengeful husband who attempts to kill his unfaithful wife and escapes charges on a technicality. A game of cat and mouse ensues between the would-be killer and frustrated prosecutor.

Critics have been kind to Fracture and even kinder to Gosling's performance. Roger Ebert has declared that this film is "as much Gosling's as it is Hopkins'." With one Oscar nomination in the bank for his portrayal of a drug addicted teacher in Half Nelson, this 26-year-old actor appears to have a bright future ahead of him.
