Australia Day, Jan. 26, is certainly a g'day, mate! In the early 19th century, First Landing Day or Foundation Day was noted in Australia for the first time. Since then, it has grown in popularity and importance to the Aussies. In their honor, I give you the Kangaroo Cocktail.

In case you were wondering, Foster's is certainly not Australian for beer. Ask a true blue Aussie if they like it, and you'll get the death stare. A couple of notes on the lingo: "jumper" means sweatshirt, "gutful of piss" means drunk, "ace" means excellent, and (my favorite) "footy" means Australian rules football. Keep your eyes out for the Aussies all over campus, because they're good fun. And best wishes to the Aussies that have returned down under. Bubby!

Chill a cocktail glass in the freezer beforehand. Pour vodka and dry vermouth into a mixing glass. Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir. Strain the drink into the cocktail glass and garnish with lemon rind. A couple of these and you'll have a "gutful of piss" for sure.

Sometimes referred to as a vodka martini, this drink is even more fun because variations are so easy. For a Chocolatini, try it with cocoa-flavored vodka with a swirl of chocolate syrup on the glass. On behalf of the day that celebrates the only country that governs an entire continent and its outlying islands, drink up!

3 ounces Vodka 1 ounce Dry Vermouth Squirt of Lemon
