As ecstatic as I was for Barack Obama to run for the presidency, I was even more thrilled that I would be able to observe the evolution of Michelle Obama's taste in style. She is now in high demand by today's biggest fashion designers, and has been offered the chance to be featured on the front cover of Vogue. She has been seen in dresses, skirts, and even a stylish jean ensemble jazzed up with chunky and bold jewelry. Her outfits do not distract from her personality, but reinforce her significance, smarts, and beauty. With her popularity growing ever so quickly, she has been linked to one of the greatest icons to grace the White House, Jackie Onassis. As it has been a while since we have seen such a stylish woman in the Oval Office, why not take the time to look at some of the first-lady-to-be's winning looks?

Some of her most popular ensembles come from her favorite hometown designer, Maria Pinto. We first saw a glimpse of Michelle in Pinto's clothing on June 3 when she celebrated her husband's Democratic nomination. The dress, a simple V-neck sleeveless one, was the perfect shade of lavender purple to complement her skin tone. She added a black belt to accentuate her waist and simple pearls as an accessory. Michelle brought not just class, but also a sense of fun to her campaign style. Another noteworthy outfit by Pinto was the gorgeous turquoise blue fitted dress she wore at a rally in Colorado on Aug. 25. This piece was a simple yet elegant long-sleeved dress that fit to perfection and only needed a brooch as an accessory.

The incoming first lady does not shy away from designers accessible to the public. During the campaign she was seen in a couple of outfits put together by J. Crew, a company known for taking timeless pieces to the next level. Michelle looked hip, trendy, and sophisticated in a pair of cobalt blue jeans and a yellow cardigan over a gray shirt. She was able to dress jeans up a notch and showed us all that we can wear colored denim in a respectable way. She even wore a brightly colored outfit from J. Crew when she appeared on Jay Leno's show in October. After she wore the brightly colored ensemble, each piece went flying off the rack, another indicator of the influence Obama has on today's women.

Not afraid to wear color or print (especially in the fitted cap-sleeve Thakoon dresses she has been seen wearing), she is the epitome of business mixed with style. Last seen on a date night with her husband, Obama looked like the powerful and beautiful woman she is in an swaying coat, knee-high suede kitten heels, tights, and a black dress, reminding us of her similarity to Jackie O. There was much talk about her Narciso Rodriguez dress worn on Nov. 4, which only shows that the new First Lady is determined to stay on top of current trends. As we have four years to see her style grow and blossom, I cannot wait for what is to come, especially for the inaugural ball.
