As I was flipping through my April '08 issue of Elle magazine, I came across an article written about the three superbly talented Beckerman sisters, who originate from Toronto - Caillianne, Samantha, and Chloe. These three fashion musketeers, who all graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, have successfully landed right in the middle of the always-changing fashion scene. With their hippie, free-spirited personalities, the sisters initially created an exquisite and funky collection for graduation that was purchased immediately by a well-known Tokyo department store. This victory launched their careers, allowing them to expand their dreams and ideas of creating original women's wear, jewelry, and handbag collections.
The Beckermans' aesthetically unique designs never cease to fuel contemporary American fashion with myriad innovation and a sort of quirkiness. Their latest spring '08 collection, inspired by supermodel Agyness Deyn, provides a theme of 1920s flappers meet 1980s Coney Island. The photo shoots for the collection actually did take place on Coney Island, with its popular amusement parks and beaches serving as the shoot's milieu. Models are either jumping around and laughing or standing in angled couture poses with serious facial expressions. The shoot, coupled with the unique attire, represents a balanced product of high fashion blended with some fun. This collection is composed of extremely wearable and well-made designs. The color scheme of these desirable spring attires includes navy-and-white nautical stripes, complemented by other pieces decorated with neon painter prints.
With their stylistic eclecticism and escalating popularity in the fashion scene, it is quite clear that these ambitious, 20-something sisters will gain even more success. Starting off in 2005 with their first spring collection, these three ladies have put out a total of eight collections thus far on the runway. Not long after their spring '08 collection came out, the Beckermans ambitiously completed a fall '08 collection, flavored with even more chic and stylish designs composed of many plaid dark-hued dresses, skirts, and tailored jackets. The setting for this shoot took place in a log cabin covered in snow, with the models either playing outside or lounging by a fire inside wearing their most stylish stilettos.
The Beckerman sisters are undeniably a triple threat not to be underestimated. With full collections of exclusive women's wear, jewelry, and handbags, the Beckermans' line can be found at stores across the nation, including Mint Julep in Cambridge, Mass.
