Designed with the beer lover in mind, the Road House adds a classy flair to Washington Square. The bar is a massive wooden structure that dominates the room. Located to the left is a chalk board that sets the parameters for your experience. In bold lettering appear the words, "No Shots, No Pitchers." Then on either side, one will find the list of beers on tap - most notably, there is no Bud Light. While being mostly domestic brews, the list consists of a variety of styles from smaller breweries. The diverse beer choice only improves with bottled beer. Nearly 90 percent of bottled choices are imports, with a generous selection of Belgian beers.
With a menu like that, I knew a tough decision was coming. After moments of deliberation, the choice was clear. I ordered the Berkshire one-year-old raspberry strong ale. It was full of flavor, on the darker side, but not too heavy, and there was just a hint of the raspberries used to create this tasty beverage. One thing is for sure: If you are in the mood to chug beer, avoid the Road House. It is meant for the beer sipper, so that he or she might enjoy every ounce fully.
With dark, rich colors and mood lighting, the Road House is an excellent choice for a date. Mellow music fills the background, perfect for those moments of awkward silence. The Road House strives to tap a slightly different crowd than its sister bar, the Publick House. Crowded, even on a Monday, the Road House is filled with young professionals in their late 20s to early 30s, relaxing after a long day. While not aimed toward the college crowd, if you like to sip your beers, this is definitely for you. B
