The point of frequenting bars and experimenting with what they offer is to be able to take a couple of tricks of the trade home, thereby improving your beverage-brewing skill set. Bars are great for the company, and the delightful yet awkward experience with both the clientele and the bartender. But what's better than being able to brew your own delicious drink, without having to leave your house? Maybe a few things, but chances are you have a drink at home before going out.
Given our college-kid need to pre-game, I thought it would be beneficial to talk about Martignetti's, or, as I more lovingly refer to it, "The Wonderland of Liquor"; after all, the majority of its stock is on sale every week. That alone could make them a wonderland. The store is massive, and has an incredibly wide selection. As a resident of New York, I am partial to my own state's beer, and Martignetti's is one of the few local packies that are willing to shelve it. Even better is its selection of hard liquor, which dominates one side of the store, offering every brand but Rubinoff. Who really wants to drink Ruby anyway, especially when Jose is always on sale?
You know it doesn't intend to cater to the college crowd, however, because you cannot find flavored champagne to make my Saturday-morning-tailgate favorite, the Mimosa. The fact that it caters to the after-college crowd, however, is what makes Martignetti's my favorite liquor store. You walk in, grab a cart, and load it up with booze, never once feeling like the cashiers are watching you - or judging you. This feeling is constantly with me at the smaller liquor store conveniently located on the route of the Boston College bus.
Given its fabulous selection and non-judgmental feel, Martignetti's is the place to purchase. I may be on a first name basis with George, but why shouldn't everyone be? A
