Beertails … they are my new favorite thing. The challenge with beertails is finding locations that serve them. My friends that were abroad last year would speak of these crazy concoctions that involved mixing different types of beer together, and thus began the quest to find bars in Boston that offered such tasty treats. The other night, this quest led me to Matt Murphy's in Brookline.

Murphy's is a small Irish pub, with charm to boot. From the moment I walked in, I knew I would leave as a satisfied customer. Complete with old-school tavern lighting, the ambiance was dark, and it took me straight back to the pubs in Dublin. This feeling was only enhanced by the funky Celtic music playing in the background. Stepping toward the bar, I began to crush on Matt Murphy's - what girl wouldn't when everyone working has an Irish brogue? The bar has no chairs around it, an attribute I find refreshing and fun. This allows you to pack in as many or as few people in a close space comfortably.

While I perused the menu, I found that both beers needed for my snakebite were on the menu. When it came time to order, I chose the snakebite, and the bartender delighted me by creating my drink without hesitation. He used Sir Perry's Pear Cider with the lager, which gave the snakebite a fruity aftertaste. It was light and delicious, and it lived up to my expectations.

Matt Murphy's is great if you are looking for a hole-in-the-wall with class. It has a small yet diverse selection of beers and cocktails. While the beers are affordable, the cocktails are on the pricey side. Also, Murphy's is cash only, which could put a damper on a big evening if you fail to hit the ATM. If you love the Irish pub scene, enjoy drinking beer, and remember to visit the ATM, then Matt Murphy's is the place for you. A-
