1. Syzokryli: Ukrainian Folk Dance Ensemble
Boston College's Ukrainian club presents Syzokryli, a New York City Ukrainian folk dance ensemble that will perform in Robsham Theater on Saturday night. The event, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m., will allow BC students to experience Ukrainian culture. An admission fee for the performance - $10 for students and $15 for adults - and for the semi-formal to follow - $5 each - will be collected prior to the show. All funds raised will contribute to BC's Archbishop Sulyk Ukrainian Student Scholarship Fund.
2.Copenhagen
When German physicist Werner Heisenberg visited Copenhagen to meet with Niels Bohr, the two found themselves in the midst of World War II. Their meeting, often speculated about, became Michael Frayn's subject matter in his play named after the location. The American Repertory Theatre will be playing the drama until Feb. 3, with tickets available online at amrep.org. Although pricey, with tickets ranging from $39 to $79 a piece, a night on the town may seem like a dazzling alternative to those apathetic about the upcoming Super Bowl.
3.VSA Tet/Lunar New Year Festival
The Lunar New Year, also known as Tet in Vietnam, celebrates nature's change and the transition from cold weather to a warmer climate between winter and spring. BC's Vietnamese Student Association comes together on Sunday in Gasson 100 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the Lunar New Year with performances, food, and games.
4. Noche de Chocolate at McElroy
What better way to spend a Friday night than by appreciating Spanish and Latin culture to the fullest? Nights on the Heights and the Pedro Arrupe El Salvador group are sponsoring Noche de Chocolate from 9 p.m. until midnight at the Chocolate Bar, with Loteria (a Mexican version of bingo) and prizes for winners and Spanish karaoke. Donations from the event will go toward the Pedro Arrupe El Salvador mission trip. If that isn't enough to entice you, half priced fondue from 8 p.m. until midnight may just do the trick.
5. Spice Girls
No need to visit your local grocery store in order to "spice up your life;" the Spice Girls are coming to Boston on Jan. 30. TD Banknorth Garden hosts these five feisty females on their reunion tour at 7:30 p.m. Luckily, tickets are still available for the event, although nothing closer than fourth-level balcony. Regardless of the poor seating options, the Spice Girls won't be back for long! Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com; get them while you can.
