1. Modest Mouse
Just look at what the cat dragged in! But then again, you can't really blame him. Fresh off its latest release, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, Modest Mouse is indeed a good catch. Over the years, the band has consistently demonstrated catchy lyrics and innovative, hard-hitting guitar licks with such hits as "3rd Planet" and "Float On." The band will play the Orpheum Theatre this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
2. 'Dating Rubik's Cube'
Despite popular belief at Boston College, conquering funnel after funnel in between games of flip-cup does not constitute as a date (no matter how impressive your drinking abilities may be). Dating Rubik's Cube, a recent recipient of the best short documentary honors at the Illinois International Film Festival, explores the world of dating in the Chicago area by interviewing an array of individuals and documenting their stories, advice, and warnings. The film makes its Boston debut Friday in Devlin 008. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $5 for students. All proceeds benefit the Benebikira Sisters Foundation, who work with the Benebikira Sisters in offering relief in Rwanda.
3. State Radio
Chad Urmston has proved there is life after Dispatch. Politically charged lyrics mixed with a jam-band approach to music rooted in reggae, are only a few of the integral components that make State Radio a must-see. The band takes on the Avalon this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com for $17.
4. CCE
Lies, deceit, and, worst of all, murder are just a few of the things students will have to grapple with when the CCE presents its spring murder mystery "Killing At The Box Office" this weekend. The comedy group returns to the O'Connell House for a two-night stand, Friday and Saturday, with a 7 p.m. start on both evenings. Tickets are $5 at the Robsham box office.
5. Sunbathing
Finally (sigh of relief) the sun is out. Time to say goodbye to that winter jacket and throw it into storage with a sense of resentment. With so many grassy areas around BC's campus, stake out some of this prime real estate, grab those swimsuits or swimming trunks, and take in some rays. Pool season quickly approaches, and there's nothing worse than a farmer's tan when strolling down the beach. Let's just face it: No one from Massachusetts wants to be mistaken for a Nebraskan.
