Tennis groupies everywhere will be saddened by the news that their poster boy, Andy Roddick, is off the market. The ace proposed to swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker last Tuesday, according to Decker's rep. The pair wanted a chance to break the news to family and friends before they made a public announcement, but news travels too fast in Hollywood. When Roddick arrived in Miami for the Sony Ericsson Open, the tournament was already bustling with good news. The pair met last year in New York when Roddick asked his agent to track down a number for the Sports Illustrated model and have been dating for a year. Andy's official Web site broke the news over the weekend and said with two sets of hectic schedules, they "plan to enjoy their engagement and will wait to set a wedding date." Did I mention that this girl is 20? That would be like me getting married to Andy Roddick … if I were a model and had a cool name. Sweet.
One celebrity endorsement that Senator Obama may not have been expecting: Sarah Jessica Parker's 5-year-old son, James Wilkie. "He's very into Barack Obama" and he made the decision on his own, Parker told reporters at a press junket for her upcoming film, Smart People. As expected, the 5-year-old's reasoning is not very deep: It is "based specifically on Barack's gender." Other than politics, James likes to play blocks, Legos, and Star Wars. His mom is savoring the time spent with her son. Parker says she knows it will be only a matter of time before he doesn't want her around any more.
A bun in the oven, no more. Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis welcomed a baby girl on Saturday, March 30. Jade Marie De Laurentiis Thompson was born at 4:38 p.m. in Los Angeles, five days earlier than her anticipated April 3 arrival. Jade is already taking after her petite mother by weighing 5 pounds and 13 ounces. This is the first child for Giada and her husband of five years, Todd Thompson. The clothing designer and television chef have been dating since 1991. Many of Giada's fans may have been expecting a much more Italian name, but De Laurentiis explained that "Jade" is the English version of her own name. She told the Today Show last month that the hardest part of pregnancy was the fatigue. "I feel awesome in the morning, but around four or five o'clock, my energy crumbles." Welcome back, energy, and with a new baby - she will need it.
