You could hear the hearts of single men and even some married ones breaking when Salma Hayek announced she was not only pregnant, but also engaged. This came as a big shock to most people who did not even know she had a boyfriend, myself included.
On Friday, Hayek's representatives released a statement explaing that she was engaged to François-Henri Pinault and that the two were expecting a child.
Way to kill two birds with one stone, I guess. The announcement came a few days after a picture of Hayek was taken raising eyebrows as to whether she was expecting. Hayek, however, seems to have pulled off the impossible - making it through the biggest season of entertainment publicity, the Oscars, without anyone as so much batting an eyelash.
Hayek was even one of the presenters at the announcement of the Oscar nominees in January. The pair has kept a low profile even though Salma has joined her fiancé for a few public events, including one in April of last year. Pinault is the CEO of a luxury goods firm PPR that claims Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent among its many assets. The Pinault family fortune is estimated to be about $7 billion. A congratulations should be in order to Salma for landing herself a billionaire. Just kidding.
It appears the Jolie-Pitts are preparing to make another international addition to the melting pot that is their family. Last week it was announced that Angelina Jolie is in the process of adopting a 3 1/2 year old son from a Vietnamese orphanage.
On Tuesday, a Vietnamese official said that the adoption application is being processed quickly, and she may become the child's mother within a few weeks, at least by March 31, according to People magazine. The child, whose name has not been released, met Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt when the two visited the Tam Binh orphanage outside Ho Chi Minh City during this past Thanksgiving.
The only information known about the young boy was released by orphanage director Nguyen Van Trung who said that "he is in good health and he is a little bit shy." Even though both Pitt and Jolie will take care of the child, the adoption process is solely under Angelina's name.
The law in Vietnam makes it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt but her and Pitt are preparing to welcome the young boy into a family which includes Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and 10-month-old Shiloh.
In non-baby news, two members of Leonardo DiCaprio's security team were arrested after fighting with photographers during a visit to the Western Wall tunnels in Jerusalem on Monday. DiCaprio and his girlfriend, supermodel Bar Refaeli, were taking a private tour of the holy site. The couple of about one year had been visiting Refaeli's family in her hometown of Israel.
