1. Lily Allen in Boston
Whether you caught Allen on Saturday Night Live last week or you just have a thing for British accents, this is a show you gotta see. Hit up the Axis on Lansdown Street on Feb. 18 to catch a glimpse of the four-time Brit Award winner (think American Grammy's) in person.
2.Anti-Valentine's
Raging feminists, single people, and a large percent of the male population will rejoice at the new trend spreading across Boston: anti-Valentine's day cards. Though it may be just another Hallmark attempt to capitalize on your mother's tendency to buy a card for every ... stupid ... little ... thing (even though you still have that Groundhog Day card she got you, that was thoughtful), anti-Valentine's Day takes the pressure off of the guy and makes V-day into a pretentious joke (read: if you're into lording your superior beliefs over your friends, this is the holiday for you). But men beware; this holiday comes with restrictions. Make sure you clear the idea with your girlfriend before you decide to start celebrating it, or you could be in for extreme physical pain and/or a public shaming.
3.Vagina Monologues
Here's another one for the feminists (and yes, for the boys who are only interested because of the title). On Feb. 17, this 1996 Eve Ensler classic is coming to a theater near(ish) you. Get yourself to Northeastern by 8 p.m. on either Friday or Saturday night to hear various women share their views on their femininity and yes, their vaginas. Sound outrageous? If so, go anyway, and know that proceeds go towards a movement to end domestic violence against women and children. Plus, weekends at Boston College can get a little dull. After the show, take Northeastern nightlife for a spin.
4. Lady Smith Black Mambazo
If you thought Lady Smith Black Mambazo was just a figment of the imaginations of the creators of Mean Girls, you were wrong. Turns out they exist, and they're coming to Boston. This South African acappella singing group has been around since the '60s and will play at the Sanders Theater on Quincy Street this March. Lady Smith Black Mambazo is a great performance that will get you out of BC and earn you a few culture points on the way.
5.Van Wilder Tour
This is one concert you really don't want to miss. Yet another gem from the Paradise Rock Club, the Van Wilder Tour features rock legends Everclear alongside Jonny Lives!, Alternate Routes, and Neon Culpa. Doors open at 7 p.m.; 18 to enter, 21 to drink. Get your tickets early, beacuse this one is bound to sell out. The tour comes to Boston on Feb. 22, get tickets at www.thedise.com
