What to Wear: Spring Edition

Spring has sprung and so should your wardrobe. This season is all about life and energy.

Brynne: Ladies, it's time to whip out those springy colors. But don't overload on the brightness, and make sure to have at least one neutral in the ensemble for balance. It definitely works to wear a colored blouse or shirt underneath a neutral fitted jacket. Wearing something like this allows for colorful shoes, as well, that complement the shirt and the ensemble as a whole.

Tue: Guys should focus on bright colors, too. Why look somber and grungy? Leave that look for winter. For a laid-back look, put on a fitted T-shirt and then throw on a casual and bright button-down, but leave it undone. The casual button-down shouldn't be ironed for this purposefully unkempt look. Wear this with khaki shorts or jeans (no jorts!) and flip-flops.

B: Though this look is OK, I think it is much better for guys to wear nice jeans or khakis with an ironed, put-together oxford or polo. Also, I admire a guy who can wear pink. It exudes confidence but not in a pompous way. If it's still a bit chilly outside, put on a nice light jacket that neutralizes the outfit and complements a plethora of colors. No jorts!

Also, I know the cold weather makes it hard to pull yourself out of those sweatpants, but come on guys, would it kill you to put on jeans? It's only a little bit more effort and offers practically the same level of comfort. Ladies, you too. It's time to retire your sweatpants and make yourself look pulled together. It's almost shorts season, so there will really be no excuse.

T: Actually, pink for guys is totally overrated, which was a big deal five years ago. It's a good color, but the world does not revolve around pink polos. Guys have better colors to wear.

A spring/summer necessity is the flip-flop. Make sure you spend some money on flip-flops, because if you don't, there are ramifications. While it may be tempting to buy the cheap two for $10 (which really exist), spend a little more and be able to dress it up or down. It is also important to note that comfort is key. Walking around Boston College all day can be very taxing on feet in cheap flip-flops.

B: For a casual look, the rainbow flip-flops are a staple and go with just about every outfit. For a dressier occasion, try the J. Crew leather flip-flops that can classily complement any spring and summer outfit.

T: This season, experiment with colors that brighten your skin tone and try different looks. Spring is about freedom from old restraints, so push your wardrobe's envelope.
