Nearing the end of the season, women's lacrosse suffered a disappointing 13-6 loss at the hands of the seventh-ranked Virginia Cavaliers (13-3, 3-2 ACC) in Newton, Mass. on Saturday. Elizabeth Kadison and Lauren Costello starred for the Eagles, notching two goals each, while Rachel Tinquist and Margot Spatola also registered goals.

The Eagles could not overcome an eight-goal run by the Cavaliers at the end of the first half and into the second half, dropping them to their fourth conference loss as a result.

Before UVA broke open the game late in the conclusion of the first period, it was a battle between the two teams.

The Cavaliers' Blair Weymouth and Megan Havrilla scored early to kick things off, but BC fought back within 73 seconds to tie the game at two.

When UVA scored again to take a 3-2 advantage, the Eagles again tied the game, but that was the closest they would get.

At the 10:20 mark, Kate Breslin began the eight-goal run for the Cavaliers, combining with Brittany Kalkstein and Jess Wasilewski to give UVA a 6-3 lead going into the half.

In the first 14 minutes of the second half, the Cavaliers exploded for five more goals before the Eagles had a chance to respond. The Eagles were held scoreless for a total of 29 minutes before Tinquist was able to stop the bleeding with a free-position goal with 12:09 remaining.

UVA was unable to break away again as the game concluded and surrendered three more goals to the Eagles, but the damage had already been done. Megan O'Malley punctuated the Cavaliers' scoring run with 1:55 remaining. UVA's Weymouth finished the afternoon with four goals and two assists, including three consecutive goals within four minutes to give the Cavaliers a 10-3, second-half advantage.

The Eagles were outshot, 35-19, in the lopsided contest. Eagles' sophomore goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made 11 saves, while her counterparts, Kendall McBrearty and Sara Hairfield of UVA, combined for eight stops. BC, which went one-for-three on free position shots, was able to hold the Cavaliers to a one-for-eight mark in the category.

Going into next week's ACC Championships, the Eagles are 1-4 in ACC play and 5-9 overall.

They will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 26, at North Carolina. The team then returns to Newton on May 5 for a Senior Day match up against Brown.
