Sophomores Shamari Spears and Daye Kaba (not pictured) will pursue other options.

Boston College men's basketball players, sophomores Shamari Spears and Daye Kaba, have chosen to transfer to other schools and "pursue other opportunities," said head coach Al Skinner.

There was no comment available from assistant athletic director of media relations Dick Kelley or Skinner at press time.

Kaba's transfer comes with little surprise, as the 6-foot-4-inch guard from Cergy, France, rarely saw the court. Kaba averaged 0.6 points and 0.6 rebounds per game in only seven games this past season. In his two seasons at the Heights, he averaged one point and 0.4 rebounds in 16 games.

Spears's decision comes as more of a shock. The 6-foot-6-inch forward from Salisbury, N.C., was an occasional starter and significant contributor off the bench. Spears started 17 games and saw action in 28 games, averaging 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. In two seasons, Spears averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 59 games, which included 30 starts. Spears's arrival on the Heights in 2006 was met with the expectation that he would replace the recently departed Craig Smith. This, however, never materialized.

Both Kaba and Spears were three-star recruits, according to rivals.com, coming into their freshman year. Tyler Roche is now the only player remaining from a disappointing 2010 recruiting class.

With their departures, two scholarships become available for Skinner to use at his disposal. It is unknown if he will use them for this upcoming season or in the future.

Six lettermen will return next season, including three starters. Three-star recruits small forward Dallas Elmore, shooting guard Reggie Jackson, and power forward Evan Ravenal will also join the Eagles next season.
