Football ranked 25th in Coaches Poll
The Eagles big win at Notre Dame last week reverberated for yet another week, as Boston College entered the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Despite having the week off, losses by Purdue and Minnesota left some open room in the Top 25, and BC squeezed into the poll. They are presently ranked 25th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and 24th in the AP Poll.
The Eagles now stand at 5-2, with a 1-1 record in the Big East. They are fourth in the Big East, trailing only West Virginia (3-0) in the loss column. Their four remaining games are all against Big East opponents, including home games against Rutgers and Syracuse. The Eagles play West Virginia on Nov. 13.
Field Hockey finishes season at 16-4
The field hockey team ended its extremely successful season this week on a high note, beating both Yale and New Hampshire. The Eagles ended the season ranked No. 11 in the country with a 16-4 record (3-2 in the Big East).
On Sunday, BC defeated Yale, 2-0, on two goals by junior midfielder Bronwen Kelly. Goaltender Jillian Savoy made five saves to record BC's eighth shutout of the season.
On Thursday, in the final home game of the season, BC defeated UNH, 3-2. Junior Sabrina Lazzari scored two goals in the win.
The next test for the Eagles will be the Big East Championships, held Nov. 5-7 at Syracuse University. The No. 3 Eagles will take on the No. 2 Syracuse Orangemen in the first round.
Volleyball loses two over weekend
After its 10-game winning streak ended last weekend, the women's volleyball team went on the road hoping to put the loss behind it and continue its winning ways. Unfortunately, after two more losses over the weekend, the Eagles now find themselves on a new streak after losing three in a row.
The Eagles lost to West Virginia on Sunday, 3-2. BC put itself in an early hole, losing the first two games, but fought back to take the next two. BC took a 7-5 lead in the deciding game, but West Virginia went on a 6-1 run and took the game, 15-13. Senior Katie Anderson led the Eagles with 29 kills, while sophomore Morgan Woodcock added 11 total attacks.
On Saturday, the Eagles fell to Pittsburgh, 3-1. BC once again tried to fight from down 2-0, but was unable to come back.

Maine continues disappointing start
Boston University (3-2-0) remained undefeated in Hockey East play and Maine (5-4-0) continued its disappointing start to its season yesterday, as BU defeated Maine, 2-1. After being one game away from a National Championship six months ago, Maine has very high expectations coming into this year. But so far, they have greatly underacheived.
The game was deadlocked at 1 until the middle of the second period. On a power play, Brian McConnell wristed the puck past Maine goalie Jimmy Howard for the eventual game-winner. It was the first time in 17 power plays that Maine had allowed a goal.
Howard had 30 saves in the loss, while BU goaltender John Curry made 25.

West Virginia wins, Henry gets ejected
West Virginia (7-1) survived a late surge by Rutgers (4-4) to remain undefeated in the Big East. The Mountaineers improved to 3-0 in the conference with their 35-30 win on Saturday.
The game seemed to be settled, with West Virginia leading 35-17 with a little over nine minutes to play. But Rutgers, who had lost to the Mountaineers in all of their last nine meetings, refused to make that number 10 without a fight. The Scarlet Kights were motivated by the dismissal of Mountaineer star wide receiver Chris Henry, who led the team with 119 receiving yards but who was kicked out due to two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Rutgers stormed down the field for two scores in the final five minutes, but ran out of time before they could complete the comeback.
Despite record day, UConn loses again
Despite 445 passing yards from Connecticut quarterback Dan Orlovsky, UConn (5-3) was unable to beat Syracuse (4-4) last Saturday. The Orange improved to 2-1 in the Big East in the 42-30 victory, while Connecticut fell to 2-3.
The day was the best in Orlovsky's four-year collegiate career, surpassing his previous best of 382 passing yards against Murray State to open up this season. He also set school records with 39 completions and 9,715 career passing yards. But in the end, it was Connecticut's five turnovers that dug its own grave. Syracuse running back Walter Reyes ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Perry Patterson added two touchdowns to seal the win.

Michigan stages dramatic comeback
Down by 17 points to rival Michigan State (4-4) with 6:53 to play, Michigan (8-1) staged one of the biggest comebacks in school history, tying the game with three minutes to go and winning in triple overtime, 45-37.
Michigan receiver Braylon Edwards, who passed up millions of dollars to return for his senior year, caught the final two touchdowns in regulation and added the final touchdown during the third overtime to clinch the win. His 189 receiving yards was a career high.
With the win, Michigan moved ahead of Wisconsin and took over the lead in the Big Ten conference with a 6-0 record.
Miami, Florida St., and Florida lose
Saturday wasn't a good day to be from the Sunshine State. For the first time since 1978, Miami, Florida State, and Florida all lost on the same day.
No. 3 Miami lost to North Carolina, 38-31. The Tar Heels drove 65 yards in the final three minutes and capped their 31st win with a 42-yard field goal from kicker Connor Barth.
No. 5 Florida State had beaten Maryland 12 straight times, but that no longer mattered on Saturday, as the Terrapins never trailed during a 20-17 win. Florida, who has underachieved all season, lost to Georgia for the first time in seven years, by a score of 31-24, a week after firing head coach Ron Zook.
