For the second year in a row, The Heights has been named as an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker finalist. The Pacemaker award, dispensed by the ACP, puts The Heights among the top 25 non-daily newspapers at four year universities in the United Sates.

"Being a Pacemaker finalist demonstrates the dedication and commitment of our editors and staff to raising the paper to new heights," said Patrick Fouhy, editor in chief and CSOM '09. "I'm thrilled that the countless hours of hard work put forth by the members of The Heights have been recognized with such a prestigious award."

Though the ACP Pacemaker is the most esteemed award in college journalism, The Heights has no intention of slacking in its task to bring excellent reporting to the Boston College campus.

"Our first goal as is not to win awards but to put out a quality newspaper twice a week. I firmly believe that as long as we stay true to that commitment, we will continue to be recognized by outside organizations," Fouhy said.

Credit for this prestigious award cannot be accepted by any individual member of The Heights.

"Our success was wholly due to the commitment of our editors, managers, and staff. Those walks home in the early hours of the morning and extended periods of sleeplessness have paid off," Fouhy said.

However, the fact of the matter remains: The Heights is one of the best college newspapers in the country, and it plans on remaining committed to bringing the news to the BC campus.

Said Fouhy: "We've been recognized as one of the best newspaper in a group of our peers in overall quality. This includes the quality of our writing, story coverage, photo, and design work. I've always been impressed at the talent at this paper, so while we are very honored and grateful for this nomination, it doesn't come as a huge surprise because of the talent of the people committed to this paper."
