Starting this October, The Heights will begin publishing twice a week - every Monday and Thursday of the academic year. The move will enable The Heights to deliver more current, newsworthy information to the Boston College campus, according to a press release issued by Editor-in-Chief Ryan Heffernan.
The change is a major milestone for the independent student newspaper, which has been a weekly since its inception in 1919.
"All of us at The Heights are ecstatic to embark on this massive venture. We look forward to continue finding ways to better serve our readers, and hope you'll be impressed with our efforts to aid in increasing communication and the availability of news on campus," Heffernan said.
The structure of the newspaper will be modified slightly because of the shift. The Monday edition of the paper will still print in four sections, but will have slightly fewer pages than the current Tuesday edition.
The Thursday edition will contain news, sports, opinions, and arts spread over two sections.
The Heights will continue to offer services such as comics, a crossword puzzle, and classified advertisements. Both editions will also include local and regional weather forecasts
Additionally, The Heights has signed an agreement with Sports Illustrated to include its popular college magazine, Sports Illustrated on Campus (SIOC) , as a free insert in the Thursday edition of the newspaper. "SIOC is a leader in covering collegiate athletics, and we're very happy to have them on board as we expand our offerings to the BC community," said Heffernan.
The newspaper will still be circulated to nearly 70 distribution stops both on and off campus. The total press run will be slightly lowered to account for the second day of distribution.
