The Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) Senate has announced changes and new plans for this semester. Former President Joe Feeny, A&S '08, has taken a leave of absence from the University. Andrew Doyle, A&S '09, has moved from vice president to president and Al Dea, CSOM '10, was elected vice president for the upcoming semester. The Senate also has enacted reforms aimed to promote better accountability of funds and increase transparency by publishing all open minutes, votes, important events, and documents on its Web site. The Senate plans to expand some of its programming and provide free Easter shuttle buses to Logan Airport during the Easter holiday, as well.
ON CAMPUS Boston named one of the top 100 communities for youths The city of Boston has been named a winner of the 2008 100 Best Communities for Young People by America's Promise Alliance, the nation's largest alliance dedicated to children and youth. The 100 communities are recognized as the best environments for young people to live and grow up, and each are eligible to apply for $300,000 in grants from the Alliance. Boston has been recognized for projects such as Camp Harbor View, which provides transportation, meals, and programming for four weeks to 600 campers at a cost of only $5, and Boston ROCKS (Recreational Opportunities for City Kids), a citywide campaign that identified programs for young people throughout the summer.
UNDER REPORTED Elderly man makes an unsuccessful 'withdrawal' A 72-year-old man in Lynchburg, Va. allegedly robbed a bank, and then changed his mind and tried to give the money back. Duval Alexander Davis, Sr. reportedly held the branch manager at gun point demanding money, then handed the money back and told the teller to call the police, according to the Miami Hearld. Witnesses say that he also tried to give her his gun. Davis has been charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and a Lynchburg District judge ruled on Wednesday that prosecutors have enough evidence to bring the case to a grand jury.
