UNDER REPORTED Senator suggests pay off for women considering abortion On Friday, a Texas legislator proposed that pregnant women who are considering abortion be offered $500 not to end their pregnancies. Republican Sen. Dean Patrick (R), who is also a conservative talk-show host, claims that the money will convince women to have their babies and give them up for adoption. "If this incentive would give pause and change the minds of 5 percent [of the women who had an abortion in Texas last year], that's 3,000 lives. That's almost as many people as we've lost in Iraq," said Patrick. While Patrick has filed legislation to make this state law, the legislature has yet to vote on it.
