Boston Police have made an arrest in the case of the stabbing of two visiting students from Loyola University in New Orleans. Christopher Lau of Brookline was arrested on Friday morning and was arraigned that afternoon on one count of assault with intent to murder, and two counts of assault by means of a deadly weapon.
Joseph Vairo and Marley Lovell were attacked in Cleveland Circle around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 12. Vairo was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, while Lovell was brought to Brigham and Women's Hospital. A Boston Police Department press release said that Vairo and Lovell were released from the hospitals in good condition.
Cory Flashner, assistant district attorney, said that Lau was called by a group of people who were having an altercation with Lovell, according to The Boston Globe. Lau arrived at the scene and slashed Lovell in the arm. The other assailants, for who police are still searching for, proceeded to kick him while he was on the ground.
Vairo arrived later, and was stabbed by Lau several times in the back, arms, chest, and waist. Flashner said that Lau and another person fled to a nearby house, where he changed and washed the knife he had used to stab Lovell and Vairo. Police executed a search warrant on Lau's house and recovered $10,000 cash, a butterfly knife and case, and wad of cash with blood on it. DNA tests are being performed on the blood.
