Shortly after midnight Sunday, residential life staff and Boston College Police responding to a noise complaint discovered quantities of marijuana, cocaine, and other paraphernalia, marking yet another incidence of serious drug use on campus.
"The police were drawn to a room in Walsh Hall due to noise," said Dean for Student Development Paul Chebator. "Upon entry, they found evidence of drug use. Further investigation indicated that someone in the room was involved in selling drugs."
Only one student in the eight-man room has been indicated as the responsible party; two of the other roommates were away that weekend in Notre Dame, said Chebator, and the other five were cleared on the drug matter, although they will face repercussions for the noise violation.
"The student [involved in the drug use] has been identified and is going through disciplinary proceedings," said Chebator, who said the individual has also received a summary suspension from the University. The student also faces a court summons pending the filing of a complaint form - possibly late this month or next.
Although Chebator said this drug confiscation was of a much smaller scale than the incident last year on Upper Campus involving freshmen students being found in possession of large quantities of cocaine, BC Police Chief Robert Morse said such incidents in general have become unusually frequent. "There certainly have been a number of high-profile cases lately," he said.
