At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, an intoxicated student broke into and entered Murray House. Kicking down a safety glass window in the front door, he sustained grave injuries that would have been life-threatening had he not been found by the Boston College Police Department.

The student, a sophomore, lost a significant amount of blood due to the leg wound - so much so that the trail of blood he left behind allowed officials to find him after he had made his way across campus from Hammond Street.

"The student was under the influence of alcohol, was blacked out, and does not remember what happened," said Dean of Student Development Robert Sherwood.

"He is at home right now and his return to school will be predicated upon an appropriate course of treatment."

This "tragic incident," said Sherwood, "could have been life threatening," but the student is currently in stable condition.

In addition to the consequences doled out to him by the University, he will be charged with the criminal charges of breaking and entering and destruction of private property, said Sherwood.

BCPD Chief Robert Morse said the student had lost a large amount of blood in Murray House and reiterated the severity of the student's wounds.

Associate Dean Katie O'Dair in the Office of the Dean for Graduate Student Life said any damage sustained by the building had been repaired.

"I have no idea how the student managed to kick in the glass," she said, "but there was no severe damage done to Murray House. We are more concerned about the well-being of the student."

A hazardous materials team was brought to campus to clean up the blood left by the student.
