The Battle for BC is on, and students can join with classmates from their freshman year to conquer as many buildings and locations as possible, online of course.
Sponsored by the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) and hosted by Gocrosscampus.com, the game invites students to strategize and take virtual control of key points on campus.
Students can go to gocrosscampus.com to register as a player under the name of their freshman residence hall and their class year. Players then place their piece on a map of the campus which is divided into territories.
Justin Pike, the UGBC executive staff member appointed with organizing the game and A&S '11, described it as being much like Risk in strategy and design. In the Gocrosscampus.com version of the game, however, players are able to join forces with other students and communicate with them online, outlining battle strategies and devising tactics.
"You can play as an individual and you can play with as many people as you want," Pike said. "The more people that play, the more fun it is."
The game is already open for player registration, but new players are welcome to join at any point during the game.
"It's very easy to sign up," Pike said.
The last several days of game play have been a period for player recruitment, but starting tonight, players will be allowed to start moving their pieces to conquer or defend territories. The game, Pike said, will likely continue for a month or so before determining a winner.
