As we recover from St. Patrick's Day weekend, we must celebrate a true Irishman and comic hero: Conan O'Brien. His success as host of NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien comes from his quirky personality, his dry humor, and his ability to make fun of himself. Backed up by Max Weinberg and the Weinberg Seven (including ever-popular, mustachioed La Bamba), O'Brien is a mainstay for insomniacs/college students everywhere. There are countless long-running sketches in Late Night's history, such as his launch of the Web site www.HornyManatee.com and the Walker Texas Ranger lever. The Late Show has successfully launched the careers of Triumph the Insult Dog and Andy Richter, who after a short stint as Conan's sidekick has moved on to bigger things. Jay Leno announced that he would retire in 2009 and that Conan would take over his job. The Tonight Show could use a boost, and Conan is just what people need at 11:30 p.m.
