Over 550 people crowded aboard The Odyssey for the Midnight Boat Cruise. The event, a two-hour cruise around Boston Harbor, was sponsored by the AHANA Leadership Council (ALC) of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College.

Ticket sales for the cruise were met with an unprecedented response from the student body. The $15 tickets sold out within a total of six hours over the course of two days.

"I'm really glad the event went well and I hope that the ALC has continued success with its programs," said Vincent Lake, executive director of ALC and A&S '01. "We called it the 'Midnight Boat Cruise' this year instead of the 'AHANA Boat Cruise' to stress the idea that everyone was welcome and not just AHANA students."

Buses transported students from Conte Forum to Boston Harbor, where they boarded The Odyssey. The boat's two floors were both entertained by a DJ.

After being served a buffet-style dinner, students spent the bulk of the evening on the dance floor. Rochelle Webb, UGBC vice president and A&S '01, said, "There was a good mix of music." She added, "There was reggae, hip-hop, Latino, all different types. I think it satisfied everyone."

The Odyssey circled Boston Harbor from midnight until 2 a.m.. The music and dancing, however, continued on the docked boat until 3 a.m. "[The event's organizers] made sure people got their money's worth by extending the time," Webb said.

The cruise, which was in the works since this summer, was attended by students from all four classes. Jessica Muriel, ALC Programming Committee member and CSOM '03, expressed satisfaction at seeing freshmen as well as upperclassmen at the event.

Organizers of the event praised the cruise as a success. "I think people had a really great time. It was one of the best programs I've been to at BC. I think it was a huge, huge success," Webb said.

Emily Cho, ALC member and A&S '02, stated that the Midnight Boat Cruise, through its music and multiculturalism, provided a way for students to celebrate Latino Heritage Month. She added that the festivities for the month will continue with a Latin jazz ensemble performing on the Dustbowl this Thursday.
