Boston College has a tradition of sending its students into the world of reality TV. Students and alumni have starred on Elimidate, The Real World, and most notoriously, Survivor and The Apprentice. Of these, which Eagle has the most reality star power?
Winning: Winner = Elisabeth The former BC softball player was a fan favorite on her season of Survivor. Hassleback made it all the way to the top four, surprising and disappointing many when she finally had to extinguish her torch. Raj, on the other hand, got fired midway through.
Post-reality TV stardom: Winner = Elisabeth Like any good reality TV star, Elisabeth used her 15 minutes of fame to launch a career. With a show on the Style Network and a spot as a host on ABC's The View, Elisabeth has stretched her 15 minutes into a few years worth of fame.
Style: Winner = Raj Think Raj, think bow tie. Think Elisabeth, think bandanna used as a shirt. Since getting out of the Outback, Elisabeth has proved through her show on the Style Network and her outfits on The View that she does have fashion sense. The Outback, however, is no place for fashion and Raj wins immunity for this challenge.
Use of skills gained from a BC education: Winner = Raj With a degree in economics, Raj's undergraduate education came directly into play in the projects assigned in The Apprentice. Elizabeth's BC degree was not as directly applicable foraging for food in the Outback.
Love life: Winner = Elisabeth Raj double faulted when he tried to make a love match with Anna Kournikova on The Apprentice and his smooth talking, ladies' man approach was exposed for all to mock. Elisabeth is married to former BC Eagle football player Tim Hassleback and they are expecting their first child.
Hometown advantage: Winner = Elisabeth Boston can be a hard town to please. True blue Bostonians are reluctant to embrace anyone as a hometown hero until they have undeniably proven their worth. But Elisabeth has clearly wormed her way into the hearts of even the coldest and most distant New Englanders. The local media has covered her career from the start, and she has graced the cover of the Improper Bostonian and has been featured in Boston Magazine.
The toughness factor: Winner = Elisabeth The scrawny gal kicked the butts of bigger, older, and stronger competitors in the Outback. She proved that she could haul trees and eat bugs with the best of them. And although the mental strains of The Apprentice should not be overlooked, in the end, confronting snakes and wild kangaroos is a lot scarier than facing a bankrupt tycoon in a cushy boardroom. Maneuvering alliances and succeeding in the Survivor challenges showed that BC girls can be a tough bunch.
Overall: Winner = Elisabeth The former Eagle was a favorite on Survivor and has transferred that fan support into a career for herself. Raj certainly added his own spice to The Apprentice, but the final results were lackluster. As a reality TV star, you've got to appeal to the masses, and Elisabeth has got that down.
