Getting homework done is enough for most of us. Grace Simmons, president of the undergraduate government of Boston College, balances international immersion trips, presentations to the board of trustees, a $400,000 budget, and occasionally some school work. No wonder she says coffee is the one thing she can't do without.
What was your first thought this morning? Ten more minutes. And what do I have clean to wear?
What are you willing to wait in line for? To see a good movie. Anything but a sandwich in the Eagle's Nest.
What's in your CD player right now? The Garden State Soundtrack.
Where is your favorite place on campus? The benches along Linden Lane. I like to sit there and read when I can.
What makes you angry? Not much. Except when people think they are incapable of doing things that they can do. Also, office politics.
What can't you do without? Coffee. I drink it when I don't need it, when I don't want it, and when I can't afford it.
Who do you admire? My mother. She is dynamic, spirited, and driven, and at the same time loving and kind.
What are your favorite books? To Kill a Mockingbird, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and Life of Pi.
How do you relax? I go where I don't think I will see anyone I know. I hide. I also make a conscious effort to take 15 minutes everyday to reflect on my day and the choices I made. I also love being with my friends and roommates. They're so much fun.
What's your biggest disappointment? When I didn't make the effort to connect with the people I am with. Also, letting my disappointments get me down. All of us at BC have so much more comparatively to the rest of the world - we shouldn't waste our time being disappointed.
What is one thing you do better than anybody else you know? Check my e-mail. And keep a planner. I have a scary, intense planner.
What is your guilty pleasure? Ice cream.
What is your favorite board game? Upwords - it's like novice Scrabble. I also love Scattergories.
Who would you like to have dinner with tonight? Gene DeFilipo at Cantina Italiana in the North End and the Cigar Bar afterwards.
What makes your day? People. And a good real laugh from the gut.
