Subcommittee hosts its first meeting to discuss the significance of programming.

The programming department of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College, which is currently headed by a director, assistant director, two directors of special events, a director of security, two directors of community events, a director of hospitality, a director of late-night programming, two directors of design, three directors of communications, three directors of Pub Series, two directors of athletic affairs, and five programming councilors, has in a not-so-surprise move created a subcommittee for programming. The programming subcommittee will be responsible for assisting with the many UGBC programming projects currently under construction, including the spring concert and the well-attended Friday night bingo events in the Chocolate Bar.

President of the UGBC, Santiago Bunce, commented on the enormous workload the UBGC programming committee encounters on a daily basis, saying, "Basically, we have a lot of responsibilities in this department. There's a lot of programming to be done. What with the logistics of the spring concert and all … it's important to get a committee together that really focuses on what it means to program. Plus, the programming department gets a lot of e-mails. Some days, we get 10, maybe even 11 e-mails. We need a strong force to tackle them effectively."

Higher-ups in the UGBC also expressed concern over making students work too hard.

"We can't just give everyone $10,000 for working for the UGBC. That's why we have to delegate. Delegation is crucial," said Bunce.

The new subcommittee for the department of programming will also work toward furthering acceptance of all walks of life on the BC campus and ensuring that all students play a significant role in the UGBC community on campus.

"We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. If everyone has a position and a sweatshirt, no one can complain when we don't have a spring concert - that's off the record, right?" said Justin Nunez, UGBC vice president.

"Plus, programming is more work than people think. Did I mention the e-mails? They build up. They do. You just need to delegate," said Nunez.

Some members of the UGBC point to the title of the new subcommittee as proof of UGBC's commitment to student life and events on campus.

"I think the fact that 'programming' appears twice in the title shows how good UGBC is at programming. It shows just how committed they are … to programming, I mean," said Nunez. "And it looks damn good on a résumé."
