On a normal Friday night in Conte Forum, one would feel something in the air: the tension of a close game, the chills from the ice (or from that annoying BU hockey fan), or the smell of greasy popcorn that never seems to come out of one’s hair. But last Friday, something else was in the air in Conte Forum: Patriotism.

Every now and then, the course of human events tosses us a fortuitous coincidence that makes for interesting stories, if not a profound life experience, to recall years later. In the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center, an art exhibition on the theme of hope can assist in the healing process in BC. Call it fate, irony or just coincidence — whatever pushes people to see Hope Photographs in the McMullen Museum is well worth enshrining.

Most BC students know O’Connell House as BC’s student union and the place where the infamous Middlemarch Ball takes place. Freshmen may only know it as the old building on Upper Campus that houses the washing machines and may not know what else goes on there. However, besides Middlemarch and the laundry room, O’Connell House hosts many events throughout the year that are worth noting.

Watch out Radiohead fans, Trekkies and comic book lovers, there’s a new cult following in town and it’s coming on strong. Its followers live among us and can often be denoted by dark-framed glasses, vintage T-shirts and unwashed hair. That’s right, they’re Weezer fans and they were in their glory last Tuesday night. The Weezer show at the Tweeter Center was the mother ship calling all subscribers to “Geek Chic” home.

In two years, the Strokes have effortlessly climbed the NYC club ladder, gobbled the sweet bait of a major record label and become Europe’s newfound rock pets. It seems odd to see Michael Douglas play the good guy for once, but that’s what he does convincingly in Don’t Say A Word, an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Dr. Nathan Conrad’s (Douglas) beloved daughter is kidnapped during the night, and only he can decipher the mystery of her disappearence. With talented actors and actresses, Don’t Say A Word never leaves a dull moment.

Parents’ Weekend is a magical time on the Boston College campus. Parents descend upon the campus and students are left to clear their social calendars and, for 72 excruciating hours, try to appear to be something remotely resembling a family. In an attempt to foster that warm and fuzzy family feeling, this week’s topic is the best family movie.
Davey and Goliath resurrected

If they gave an award to the best Lutheran, Claymation TV show from the ’60s about a kid and his talking dog, Davey and Goliath would surely win. This show is quite a find. It airs Mondays and Wednesdays at four p.m., Friday at 12 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on Boston Catholic TV (33 on BC Cable).
Fat Boys
By Jeremy Raelin / Heights Senior Staff
Since the early days of rap and hip-hop, New York’s Bronx has spawned an uncountable number of influential artists. In order to gain recognition, a rapper must differentiate him/herself to the crowd. This is exactly what the three members of the Disco 3 did after they won a national talent show at the Radio City Music Hall in 1983. The group changed their name to the Fat Boys to mark their physical attributes. It would seem that the rest is history.
