The debate surrounding gender in the medical field is highly sensitive and controversial. But when most people think about the inequalities within the sciences, they tend to forget that the odds can be stacked against men, too. Right here at Boston College, a small group of men is venturing into a field largely dominated by women - nursing.

The debate starts before freshmen arrive on campus: Newton or Upper? That one innocuous question on the housing form determines whether your trek back to your residence hall will consist of a bus ride or flights of stairs. Tour guides enthusiastically promote the unwanted, satellite Newton - "Trees are good for the soul! You get such a sense of community!" they promise.
AIM has established its popularity, but rudeness becomes problematical

One of the first tasks most students tackle right after moving in freshman year is setting up the computer. Students plug in their Ethernet cords and are instantly able to familiarize themselves with Web Mail, Agora, and the class registration system. Students' connections to the world is incomplete however until one program most every student uses on a regular basis is downloaded - AOL instant messenger, better known as AIM.

Poker is really hot, and I'm a big fan of Vegas, so card games are a great way to pass cold winter days. There's the standard fare, Hearts, Spades, and Gin, but we're young, agile college students; how about something with a little more skill? Plus, by the time you're ready for retirement, Bridge will be a piece of cake.
