BCPD apprehends RDs for smoking marijuana

Three residence hall directors (RDs) resigned Friday in the wake of an investigation by the Office of Residential Life after they were allegedly caught smoking marijuana earlier in the week by a resident assistant, a source told The Heights.
Volunteers collect over $23,000 for Katrina victims

Saturday's game was about a lot more than football for the more than one hundred volunteers who rallied together to raise over $23,000 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Armed with matching T-shirts and buckets, they set out two-by-two across campus, throughout tailgating areas and at the entrances to Alumni Stadium, to offer every fan an opportunity to donate.

Boston College continues to fluctuate in the U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges," falling to 40th in the 2006 issue, released last month. In the past four years, BC has alternated from 38th, 40th, and 37th before returning to 40th this year.

As the Eagles enter the increased competition of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), they are looking for both players and fans to step it up. In an effort to get the stadium packed at kickoff, the athletic department has adopted a new policy allowing fans to enter the tailgating areas two and a half hours prior to game time.

Due to an error in the space management process, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) resource center will not be opening this fall. Officials from the GLBT Leadership Council (GLC) have been meeting with administrators and have tentatively planned a short-term space to be opening within the next month.

After five years of being ranked as homophobic by the Princeton Review, Boston College is off the "Alternative lifestyle not an alternative (low acceptance of gay community)" list. The rankings, which come from student surveys available at schools or online, were recently released in the Princeton Review's 361 Best Colleges: 2006 Edition.

In what has become an annual tradition, the senior administrators of Boston College held an open meeting for students Thursday night to address goals for the new year and to answer concerns from the students. Luke Howe, president of the Undergraduate Government of BC (UGBC) and CSOM '06, helped open the evening with a reflection of his time at BC and his ideas for the future.
