The news on Monday afternoon that Theo Epstein, erstwhile wunderkind general manager of the Boston Red Sox, had quit the club quickly engendered a simmering stew of news, rumor, informed speculation, and ad hominem invective that baseball fans, journalists, and sports-talk radio entertainers found irresistibly palatable.

New York City is America's safest big city. It ranks 221 out of 240 cities across the nation on the total crime index. Last year was the third straight year with fewer than 600 homicides and the fewest homicides since 1963. Crime is down nationally but the continuous progress that New York City has made in reducing violent and property crimes is nothing short of miraculous.

My two greatest outlets, the interests that allow my brain to relax from the stress inherent in the balancing act that is my college career, are sports and music. When the weekend rolls around and I've had my fill of pompous professors and put up with enough crap from my bosses, I unwind by watching about 17 hours of football between the NCAA on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday.

Le Moyne still remembers Monan In your article about University Chancellor Rev. Donald Monan, S.J., it is mentioned that he came to Boston College from Le Moyne College, a Jesuit institution "located in Buffalo, N.Y." In fact Le Moyne is located in Syracuse, N.Y.
