Senior's knack in clutch leaves imprint on defense

For the third consecutive year, the women's soccer team has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. After drubbing Boston University in the first round, the Eagles stunned No. 3 seed Rutgers with a 4-2 shootout victory after the teams played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer.

The women's basketball team looked primed to suffer the same fate that the men's team had a night earlier - losing at home to a school from a mid-major conference. But Kindyll Dorsey would have none of it. The Eagles' senior co-captain played all 40 minutes and finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists to lead Boston College (2-0) to a hard-fought 68-60 win over Delaware (1-1) at Conte Forum Tuesday night.

The Eagles controlled the first few minutes against Vermont Monday night. It was all downhill from there. Al Skinner's squad did not play up to its No. 14 ranking, and the coach was understandably frustrated as his team struggled shooting and rebounding.

About five years ago, when the men's varsity water polo team was cut from the Boston College athletic program, no one would have dreamed of the results of this year. Playing and practicing in the ill-equipped pool of the Flynn Recreation Complex in the five years since its last NCAA competition, the water polo program at BC has rebuilt itself into the form of a formidable club team, competing in the eight-team North Atlantic Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association.

As it turns out, Alison Foley's squad won't be the only Boston College women's soccer team competing in a national tournament this weekend. Beginning today, the BC women's soccer club will compete through Saturday in the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Tournament, held in Tempe, Ariz.
