Works to be displayed in McMullen Museum of Art have some dubious qualities

The authenticity of a number of paintings credited to Jackson Pollock - paintings to be on display in the McMullen Museum of Art - has come into question as Harvard researchers recently found materials in the paintings that were not available until after the artist's death.
Undergraduate researchers display their wares at exhibit

"It was an inspiring and intriguing experience to feed off of each other's academic interests," said Kyle Trainor, A&S '09, on the Undergraduate Research Symposium, which was held on Friday. The symposium provided undergraduates a chance to present the results of their research and grant-funded travel to their peers.

Boston College's former Academic Vice President, Jack Neuhauser, has been named president of St. Michael's College, a position he will assume July 1. Neuhauser served for five years on St. Michael's board of trustees, in addition to 21 years as Dean of the Carroll School of Management and five years as AVP.
At BC, TRUTH releases newsletter

Last week TRUTH released its first newsletter aimed at informing students, faculty, and administrators about its movement. The newsletter outlined the administration's poor response to requests of AHANA students and detailed TRUTH's requests of the administration.

In an attempt to educate the student body about the candidates for their upcoming elections, the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) hosted its "Meet and Greet" session Thursday in Higgins 310. The event, which was sponsored by the Election Committee (EC), provided each pair of running mates five minutes to break down their campaign to the approximately 50 to 60 students that attended.

Last year, the student-made sitcom The BC garnered widespread acclaim and legendary status when seniors Joe Sabia and Sherwood Tondorf set out to create a Web-based parody of the popular television show The OC. The show, which centered on the midadventures of fictional Boston University reject Woody Atryan, aimed to appeal specifically to students at Boston College.

By Kevin Quigley Heights Staff Thursday night at the Irish Room in Gasson Hall, listeners were treated to a lecture and reading by Colm Tóibín, one of the most recent additions to Ireland's long line of literary geniuses. The celebrated author of The Master related his philosophy on the craft of writing, and he read from his new collection of short stories, Mothers and Sons, in an event titled "The Reverse of the Picture: Finding Fiction in Fact," co-sponsored by the Lowell Humanities Series and the Irish studies department.

(U-WIRE) STILLWATER, Okla. -- Censorship of La Catarina, a student-run newspaper at Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, has ended roughly two weeks ago after control of the newspaper was taken. The administration of the Mexican University, with whom Oklahoma State University has exchange programs, met with the Catarina editorial board Wednesday afternoon, Astrid Viveros, a Catarina reporter and columnist, said in an e-mail.

Contrary to previous publications, I don't hate Boston College. I know my columns tend to fall into the fire-and-brimstone-social-justice category and seldom address the good things, but chalk it up to my belief that this place and the people in it are capable of being so much better than they allow themselves to be.
