Boston College has always been commended as a Jesuit university actively involved in the advocacy and promotion of volunteer and service work. With more than 16 on-campus organizations offering accessible service opportunities for students, it is hard to believe membership does not accurately represent the entire student body.

Police were out in full force Saturday night responding to two separate incidents on campus. The first incident occurred on Saturday during the African Student Organization (ASO) Dance. "Last night a non-BC student was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest at the ASO Dance," said Jack Dunn, University spokesman, confirming a report from the Boston College Police Department (BCPD).

It's a typical Wednesday night. A sophomore boy, having just printed tomorrow's lecture slides at the library, swings by the dining hall and grabs two bottles of water, a slice of pizza to go, and a side of fries. After cursing at the fact that he accidentally printed out the wrong set of slides, he walks into his room in Walsh Hall to find all the lights on, the television blaring, and a laptop charging on the couch.
First debate of campaign focuses on AHANA issues

Last night, the AHANA Leadership Council, the GLBT Leadership Council, and the Elections Committee presented a panel discussion entitled "Through our eyes." Contenders in the race for the presidency and vice-presidency of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC), a position that brings power, influence, and $12,000 to those who hold it, answered questions concerning the manner issues of race, sexuality, and gender should be resolved within the Boston College community.

The first-ever Heights Week kicked off yesterday when the women's basketball team faced Miami in Conte Forum. With seven season-making or -breaking games in seven nights, the Athletics Department launched a media campaign with television advertising on NESN and WCVB-TV Boston to promote an exciting week of college sports.

Saturday's 30th annual Bioethics Conference, hosted by the Mendel Society of Boston College, explored the intersection of bioethics and health law. Sarah Catalano, conference chair and A&S '09, welcomed all those attending. "The purpose of the conference is to create an atmosphere that promotes reflection, conversation, and academic exchange between the speakers and audience," said Catalano in an interview for The Heights.

As the tensions between the United States and Iran continue to flare, experts across the nation are offering their analyses of Iran's defiant nuclear program and their predictions of a possible war over the issue. Dr. Jim Walsh, a research associate at MIT's Security and Studies program and one of the leading experts on Iran, addressed these topics in front of both faculty and students in a lecture entitled "A Nuclear Iran? Energy, Weapons and the Future of the Middle East" on Thursday.
