Eagles snap five game skid with win over Crimson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-There's nothing like a match-up against Harvard to right the ship for the baseball team. After dropping five games in a row and nine of their past 10, the Eagles traveled to Cambridge to pitch their way to a 6-3 victory over the Crimson.

There they were, skating on the fresh ice of Kelley Rink one last time, 14 hockey players participating in their own form of group therapy, a pick-up hockey game. There was a lot of laughing and hollering amongst the Boston College hockey team. There were neat spin moves by Nathan Gerbe and acrobatic saves by Cory Schneider.

On Wednesday, the softball team made some critical mistakes - five, to be exact - and fell to UMass, 7-1, as a result. Senior Britney Thompson took the circle for the Eagles and quickly racked up four runs before being chased from the game. Her counterpart, UMass' Bailey Sanders, pitched a complete game and surrendered just two hits.

Ten years is a long time. Imagine, if you can, where you will be in 2017. College will have past, and our lives will be running ahead at full speed. Now, remember where you were 10 years ago. I was only 8 years old; my major obsessions at the time were collecting basketball cards and hanging out with my buddies next door.

Last year hurt, but this year hurts far worse. Expectations coming into the season had greatness written all over this team. The men's hockey team came into the 2006-2007 campaign ranked No. 1, having lost three influential players but returning the core of the squad that came so close to national glory last year.

In a game rescheduled from March 20, the baseball team played host to one of the hottest teams in New England, the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, on Tuesday afternoon. Winners of seven of its last 10, the top team in the latest NEIBA New England Coaches Poll has been successful this season mostly because of its strong starting rotation, which came into the BC contest with a NEC-leading earned run average of 3.
