Environmental studies dept. helps terrapins

Not many people know that on the fourth floor of Higgins, diamondback terrapins are growing in a laboratory. But then again, not many people know what diamondback terrapins are. Of course, Katie Cava and Chrissie Lanzieri, both A&S '08, can tell you that these little turtles with intricate patterns on their top shells are the essential component of a great conservational project taking place at Boston College.

For the second year in a row, The Heights has been named as an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker finalist. The Pacemaker award, dispensed by the ACP, puts The Heights among the top 25 non-daily newspapers at four year universities in the United Sates. "Being a Pacemaker finalist demonstrates the dedication and commitment of our editors and staff to raising the paper to new heights," said Patrick Fouhy, editor in chief and CSOM '09.

When one typically describes someone who is a successful decision-maker, adjectives like "emotional" and "hot-headed" may not initially come to mind. According to a recent study by Lisa Feldman Barrett, psychology professor at Boston College, and Myeong-Gu Seo of the University of Maryland, however, the old adage that one should "keep a cool head" when making decisions may not be true in practice.
Students kneel before BAE Systems

On a floor teeming with bankers, lawyers, and prospective employees dressed to the nines, 10 students sat cross-legged, heads bowed, and hands folded in silent prayer. Though they appeared out of place at the 2007 career fair in Conte Forum, the kneeling Global Justice Project members were there for a very explicit purpose: to protest the presence of leading military contractor BAE systems at the fair.
