Who saw The Departed and did not need to rush home and download "Shipping Up to Boston"? Did that music come from a CD bought at Best Buy, perhaps? Probably not. More than likely, it came from some peer-to-peer program of choice and was downloaded for free. No waiting in lines, searching through CDs, or spending money. An iPod certainly does not come cheap, so it is understandable to not want to spend more money filling it up. The only drawback to this scenario, however, is that peer-to-peer downloading is illegal, and Congress has something to say about it.

This week, the House of Representatives revisited the high-profile issue of multimedia piracy on college campuses throughout the country.

In suburbs across America, "megachurches" are beginning to overtake the parishes of the previous generation. These gargantuan spiritual factories are not only comprised of churches, but restaurants and retail stores as well. Enormous services are held daily and are typically led by one charismatic master preacher.

The Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture (ISPRC) at Boston College will hold its seventh annual Diversity Challenge - a national conference held at BC that features speakers who will provide presentations and workshops. This year's conference, to be held Friday and Saturday, will focus on the theme "Race and Culture Intersections in Scientific Research and Mental Health Service Delivery for Children, Adolescents, and Families.
WebMail server crashes unexpectedly

News Editor Just over two days ago, Boston College's students were reintroduced to an earlier era when BC's e-mail service unexpectedly crashed and left thousands without access to their Webmail accounts. Today, access to Webmail remains limited, with administrators and technicians scrambling to fix an error that has left the e-mail system operational, yet inaccessible.

With busy lives and bright futures ahead of them, retirement is probably the last thing on most Boston College students' minds. Yet for at least a small segment of the BC community, the subject of retirement is a crucial one. The Center of Retirement Research at BC is one of the premier institutions in the nation for studying retirement issues as diverse as social security, 401(k) plans, and human lifespan.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, residential life staff and Boston College Police responding to a noise complaint discovered quantities of marijuana, cocaine, and other paraphernalia, marking yet another incidence of serious drug use on campus. "The police were drawn to a room in Walsh Hall due to noise," said Dean for Student Development Paul Chebator.

Cullen Murphy and his youngest son had just landed at Shannon Airport in Ireland. As they were taxiing to the terminal, the pilot suggested that everyone aboard look out the plane windows. Parked next to them on the runway were both Air Force Ones, sitting nose to nose, and the general entourage that follows a sitting president: Secret Service agents, armed guards, snipers, the media, and curious gawkers.

Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may not be familiar to for most college students, but these gastrointestinal disorders are ones that are cropping up on local campuses. Dr. Roger Mitty, chief of Gastroenterology at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, has seen more college students diagnosed with the disorders recently.

By Katie Cloutier For The Heights In response to the environmental concern of today's society several departments and organizations at Boston College are working to make recycling a part of on-campus culture. Recycling resources are being added to residence halls, dining halls and athletic facilities to encourage students to reduce, reuse, and recycle every day.
