Patrick H. Rombalski, current vice president for student affairs at John Carroll University, has been named vice president of student affairs at Boston College. In his new role, Rombalski will manage nine departments at BC, including the Office for the Dean for Student Development, the Office of Residential Life, and the Office of AHANA Student Programs.
New and returning editors have enthusiasm and talent

Seventeen new board members and 19 returning editors join the 2008 editorial board of The Heights, which is responsible for the production and operation of Boston College's independent student newspaper. Members were elected by editors from the 2007 board as well as staff members last November.

As Harvard, Princeton, and the University of Virginia await the results of their first year without an early admissions program, other universities, including Boston College, already appear to be reaping the benefits. Many universities that kept their early admissions programs noted a significant increase in the number of early applications they've received this year, which some attribute to the loss of the programs at Harvard, Princeton, and the University of Virginia.

As the demand for globally proficient employees increases, Boston College, like the vast majority of universities across the United States, has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to international education.

A petition to grant tenure to Boston College's Ralf Gawlick, a professor in the music department, is just one of the many recent attempts by BC's students to voice their opinions about the growing tenure crisis facing colleges nationwide. The much-loved professor has developed a sort of cult following, and when students learned he was hoping to attain a full-time tenure-track position, they banded together to help convince the administration that Gawlick was more than deserving.

It is not often that university term projects cross the line that divides intellectual exercise from "practical" action. This was the intent, however, for Kevin McIntyre, a professor in the psychology department, when he allowed students in his Social Psychology class to choose "Persuasion Techniques and Charitable Giving" as a topic for their final project of the fall semester.
