White rabbits, magicians, show girls, and brides trooped to Upper Campus on Saturday night for the annual Middlemarch Ball, a traditional costume ball that has captivated Boston College students for 35 years. O'Connell House was transformed into Sin City this weekend for the Las Vegas-themed event, and students impressed with costumes ranging from Siegfried and Roy's white lion to Britney Spears and Jason Alexander. The theme came courtesy of the ball's coordinators, O'Connell House's five managers, and the 20-member committee that aided them in adorning the house in decorations fitting for the city of lights.
A new initiative bridges the gap between faiths

With the most sacred day of the Christian calendar just around the corner, Boston College is preparing for a week of elaborate holy services. The administration's new Interfaith Initiative, however, is remaining a priority. The new effort, which began last summer, is getting off the ground this semester as the school continues to work on improving its relations with and services for those of non-Catholic faiths on campus.
15-year-old Oscar Romero Scholarship honors leaders in the Latino community

Amid a colorful fiesta of Peruvian music, dance, and food, members of the Boston College community and their families gathered to honor the life of a beloved archbishop and the achievements of three BC juniors. The evening paid tribute to the accomplishments of all finalists for the Oscar A. Romero Scholarship: Jennifer Castillo, A&S '09; Ricardo Salinas, CSOM '09; and Stephanie Sanabria, LSOE '09.
Denice and Montenegro launch application process

The Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) president- and vice president-elect Chris Denice, CSOM '09, and Alejandro Montenegro, A&S '09, began accepting applications for the next academic year yesterday. The application process is open to all undergraduates interested in becoming involved in the UGBC.
Faculty discuss love and reconciliation with inmates

With an average daily population of 1,250 inmates, the Massachusetts Correctional Institution (MCI) in nearby Norfolk is similarly proportioned to Boston College's Upper Campus. The comparisons cease with the maximum-security wall, 5,000 feet long by 19 feet high.

Sixty-four days until graduation. Yes, I counted them. Sorry to all the seniors for putting it so bluntly, but the numbers do not lie. I don't know about you, but the mere sight of that number is enough to make me queasy. It's almost frightening how fast these three years have gone by, even after all of the countless dinners at Lower, the club meetings, final exams, and football games.
