The end of the Republican National Convention signaled America's metaphorical entrance into the lion's den that is a presidential election. Of course we all know the importance of this election - not only is this the first time that an incumbent president or vice president isn't running, but we have the choice of either the first black president or the first female vice president ever.

Ryan Adams, the 33-year-old alt-country punk rocker, has come a long way in the last two years. Completely sober since the spring of 2006 and aging gracefully with perhaps one of the tightest jam bands in the game (the Cardinals), Adams has replaced his notorious on-stage volatility with a welcomed seriousness and a more pointed workman-like attitude.

Anyone who believes that Jessica Simpson is stupid hasn't followed her career. Beginning as a young gospel singer, she achieved fame by transforming into a pop sex symbol of sorts. When she couldn't compete with Britney Spears and other stars, she settled for subjecting her marriage with 98 Degrees frontman Nick Lachey to reality television.
Fey and Phoeler make a pretty 'Baby,' but the DVD extras just can't
By JaNee Allen
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are a dynamic duo in the uproarious film Baby Mama. The movie centers on Fey's character, Kate Holbrook, a successful businesswoman who believes that her life is missing one tiny thing - a baby. Unable to conceive a child herself, Kate decides to seek out a surrogate mother, and she finds Angie Ostrowiski, played by Poehler.

Is it just me, or do the VMAs seem to get worse every year? The show's heyday is over, with its cultural relevance sinking lower and lower, and with declining ratings year after year. But moreover, the awards seem to be more and more pointless, as celebrities receive nominations for their names rather than for the quality of their work.

You're in the middle of the pre-game festivities. You're not sure where your night is going to take you, but you definitely do not want to drink all your Mod friends' booze. If you're a freshman, I'm sure you're thinking the opposite - but have some respect! Bring your own bev once in a while, jeez.
Our parents were wrong
By Blair Thill / Associate Arts & Review E
When we grow up, our parents try to teach us "not to judge a book by its cover." While I realize that the cliche statement is meant to be a metaphor that imparts the value of not judging people before we know them, I believe that in the literal sense the idea is flawed - especially in terms of popular culture.

I have always wanted to be a DJ, and I like to listen to music with this idea in mind. Why not strip away everything but the bass-line from Radiohead's "National Anthem," invert it and slow it down considerably, sprinkle in some of the Middle Eastern flavor from "The End" by the Doors, snag the West Coast-infused guitar melody from the second verse of Rage Against the Machine's "Down Rodeo," and set it all up to a backbeat provided by John Bonham, courtesy of "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin? Unfortunately, to turn this jumbled mess into anything listenable takes a great deal of skill and a painstaking attention to detail (neither of which I have).
"Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to Hollywood"
By Chase Kinser
After watching the grueling election cycle this year, I couldn't help thinking, "Why hasn't Hollywood made a movie about the presidential election?" Clearly Hollywood doesn't avoid politics or politicians, and it didn't even take long for Oliver Stone to make his W.
Dishing out good food at low prices
By Anne Muscarella
Knowing that the seemingly endless beautiful summer days in Boston are in fact nearing an end, my dining partner and I searched for an eatery with outdoor seating. Hidden among the brownstones of the South End there is a gem in "The Dish," a charming neighborhood bistro.

Designed with the beer lover in mind, the Road House adds a classy flair to Washington Square. The bar is a massive wooden structure that dominates the room. Located to the left is a chalk board that sets the parameters for your experience. In bold lettering appear the words, "No Shots, No Pitchers.

As everyone knows, a picture can say a thousand words, just like a bag can easily express a thousand words about its owner. Handbags have the ability to make a bold fashion statement, and in recent times, they are the latest "it" accessories, able to make or break an outfit.
Babies, babies, everywhere!
By Meghan Thomsen
Welcome back, celebrity gossip junkies! It has been a long and rather uneventful summer. Everyone has apparently put their insane behavior on hold for one common goal: expanding the human race. It seems as though anybody who is anybody either had or is expecting a child in the upcoming months.

When you first meet Matthew Deluca, A&S '11, you would probably think of him as a softspoken, strapping young lad. But, once you get to know him, you'll find out that this Saggitarius has lots of spunk. Maybe it's the fact that he's from New Jersey, or maybe it's just that every lady on The Heights is secretly in love with him.

1. Jordin Sparks proclaims "Not everybody - guy or girl - wants to be a slut." ... to which Paris Hilton said, "Speak for yourself!" 2. Lynne Spears releases Through The Storm, an advice book for mothers What's next? Amy Winehouse writing a book about sobriety? 3.

We have fond memories of him from Dawson's Creek and his time on the silver screen as Charlie Conway in one of our favorite childhood series - The Mighty Ducks. In the last decade, Jackson was a popular teen star, with a career that appeared to be going nowhere but up.

1. Greek - Maybe we don't have Greek life at Boston College, but it doesn't mean that we can't be amused by its drama. Only three episodes in and we have seen Rusty question his path in life, Evan ruin two relationships for Casey, and Rebecca use her "fame" to her advantage.
