The Scene Articles

We have all been reminded over and over again about the amazing summer the film industry had. But considering that we are halfway through the month of September, The Scene has decided to leave these landmark summer months behind us and look forward to the fall. So forget about Robert Downey, Jr.'s race-bending performance in Tropic Thunder.

The Scene, along with our partner Allied, a public relations firm, hopes to offer you the chance to go to advance screenings of films here in Boston throughout the fall semester. The first will take place next Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. The screening, which will be at the Loews Boston Commons will feature Choke, an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name.

Death Magnetic immediately takes metal purists back 20 years to a time when self-indulgence was measured by how many pulled neck muscles your guitar riffs could induce. This was a time before Metallica took sand paper to metal's rustic beard and churned out a dark masterpiece smeared with pop-sensibility and radio-friendly hooks.

It's always disappointing when a pretentious filmmaker ruins a good idea. Of course, a film is one person's take on a story, but in most cases, you would hope that even if you didn't feel satisfied by the majority of a film, you would find some redeeming qualities.

Over the past few years, All That Remains has been a virtual who's who of metal bands; picking up new members from the Black Dahlia Murder, CKY, and, most recently, Diecast. That much change in a lineup can make it hard for a band to really mesh together as a cohesive, tight unit, but All That Remains has pulled it off, once again, with Overcome.
The Zack Morris

For some reason, there's a dude that's on my mind all the time. Everywhere I turn, he's there waiting for me. During our '90s Theme Song Power Hour, on this new Raising the Bar show, in Wale's lyrics - I just cant get away from Zachary Morris! He absolutely deserves to be honored with a beverage.

What if they thought it was overwhelmingly retro or lacked sophistication? Was it not chic enough? Did I not take adequate risk? These were undeniably only a sample of questions that ran through the minds of countless leading fashion desigers around the globe just a few days ago as the spring 2009 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was launched in New York City.

Relative newcomer AnnaLynne McCord told Entertainment Weekly that, "It's very scary to think of committing to any show for six years." McCord plays the super rich, super bitch Naomi on the CW's newly revamped 90210. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for you, Miss McCord, but honestly, I don't think your six-year contract is anything to split your pretty blond hairs over.

Often lodged somewhere in between the Roger Waters and David Gilmour strife, Rick Wright was often overlooked in the Pink Floyd framework. He lived a very private life, but whether working on a solo album or helping out Gilmour on his own work, Wright would always turn up somewhere, which is why his passing on Sunday really hit me.

"My Favorite Film sites" The Internet is a wonderful world for film snobs such as myself (and anyone else who sees countless movies). Therefore, I would like to make a tribute to my favorite Web pages about movies (even though they should be paying me for kissing their asses).

Jennifer Lopez had one packed weekend. She signed up to judge Project Runway, broke her foot, dropped out of Project Runway, "un-broke" her foot, ran a triathlon, and threw a 40th birthday bash for husband Marc Anthony. First, news broke last week that Lopez would be the fourth judge for the Project Runway finale during Fashion Week.

Beertails … they are my new favorite thing. The challenge with beertails is finding locations that serve them. My friends that were abroad last year would speak of these crazy concoctions that involved mixing different types of beer together, and thus began the quest to find bars in Boston that offered such tasty treats.

Given our success in the South End last week at The Dish, my dining partner and I headed to the same neighborhood this week to dine at The Beehive. This establishment is located in a former boiler room that has been transformed into a swanky restaurant, bar, and jazz club that attracts quite the crowd.

1. Heroes - Fans of NBC's superpower drama have been waiting since December for a new episode, and from all accounts (read: spoiler) the two-hour premiere of Villains is everything we want. Forget the plodding second season, the aptly named "The Second Coming" episode has time travel, romance, and not one but 12 new villains.

Gossip Girl is only in its second season running on the CW, but it has already proven itself, in my opinion, as TV's greatest guilty pleasure. Although Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, steals the show with her gorgeous good looks and her mysterious, pained demeanor, I prefer to watch Blair Waldorf, her manipulative, conniving, and extremely fashionable best friend.

At The Heights, we refer to our managing editor, Grant Hatchimonji, A&S '10, as a douchebag. But believe it or not, that's a loving term. Hatchimonji, a lover of heavy metal (no lie) is the heart of The Heights. He entertains us on production nights by imitating drunk girls dancing to Flo Rida's "Low.
