International students increase at BC due to weak dollar, Jesuit values

Over the past few years, Boston College has become increasingly popular with international students due to its location, academics, and faith community, and this year has been no exception. In 2008, BC has seen a 50 percent increase in international students, including graduates, undergraduates, and exchange students.

Four hundred people of Boston College's past and present gathered Saturday night to look forward to the future, celebrating the inauguration of the 150th Anniversary Capital Campaign. Seeking to raise $1.5 billion, "Light the World" will support BC's most recent initiatives, including construction on Brighton Campus and the strengthening of academic excellence.

Over the past several weeks, Americans all over the country have seen global markets plummet. The crisis on Wall Street and how it has translated to Main Street has been splashed across newspapers nationwide. Three weeks ago, a $700 billion bailout of investment and banking firms was unthinkable; now, according to students and faculty at Boston College, the passing of such a measure was vital and unavoidable.

The National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy's most recent survey found that 56 percent of dogs and 71 percent of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. From these numbers, it was determined that 9.6 million animals are euthanized annually in the United States.
