Few things can inspire fear in a person more than the thought of Halloween. It's not because of the ghouls and goblins that are supposedly roaming around, or even the possibility of bodies rising from the dead in the graveyard next to our campus. No, there is only one thing that can make your hair stand up on end come October - the horror of finding the perfect Halloween costume.

Editorial Assistant Diana C. Nearhos used to introduce herself to people as Di until she realized they might take it more like a command than an introduction. The truth is that she probably has the hardest job on The Heights. She does the jobs no one else wants to do - including taking down 37 different dinner orders every Sunday.

f someone wanted to list all the bands that have referred to the Beatles as an important influence to their music, it would probably take a few weeks. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with this; the Beatles are widely regarded as one of the best bands of all time.

Thanks to The OC and two albums under Atlantic Records, Death Cab For Cutie can no longer bear the moniker of a true indie band. Formed in 1997 in Washington, the band enjoyed modest success and acclaim for its first five albums, buzzing through indie airwaves with bookish charm.

Jim Dale's British accent welcomes the television viewer into the warm and colorful (in every sense of the word) world that Ned, Chuck (or Charlotte), and friends inhabit in ABC's delightful comedy, Pushing Daisies. He speaks in rhyme, because quite obviously, prose is for the common television show, which Pushing Daisies is not.

'Tina or Sarah?' I've always loved Tina Fey, but lately I've fallen into a deeper love with her than ever before. Over the last three weekends, she has been on hand to open each episode of SNL by spoofing Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

You've all been there: waiting impatiently for the T. Have you ever seen the "out of service" sign on the Boston College shuttle, or them blatantly streak past you at 9:30 a.m.? Sometimes, you might even contemplate taking the B line, that's how desperate you are.

Daft Punk is like a drug. I cannot tell you why I like them, or even if I should like them, but I cannot stop listening to them. If someone told me a year ago that my musical tastes would be kicked in the ass by a pair of French DJs wearing space helmets, I would probably try to beat that person over the head with a copy of Music From Big Pink by The Band.

The Walkmen "I Lost You" Gigantic Opening with a beautiful guitar jangle reminiscent of '70s rock 'n' roll, the second single from The Walkmen's You & Me tearfully recounts a tale of longing, only to peak at its finale with an elegiac cry of remorse. The NYC indie-rockers' use of vintage instruments is evident in their characteristically old-fashioned sound, filling the room with pounding drums and echoing horns, with Hamilton Leithauser's graceful, wailing vocals atop it all.

As we get into the month of October, we as fashionistas are stuck in a time when the weather is at its "in between" stage. This stage is typified by chilly days, with the sun, wind, and rain always coming and going. It is a confusing time when many are not sure what to wear, especially on top, to keep them warm.

My favorite unconventional couple called it quits on Tuesday. Amid recent rumors of a breakup, Holly Madison confirmed that it's over with the ultimate playboy, Hugh Hefner. The confirmation came courtesy of TMZ when a cameraman asked if she could get him into the Playboy Halloween party.

During my semester abroad in Australia, I have traveled to various beautiful places around the country including beaches, major cities, rain forests, and the Outback. At each place, my film major side kept thinking, "I should film a movie here." But I soon realized something.

I might not have 20/20 vision, but I know a bad movie when I see one. Blindness was not just a bad film, it was a horrid one. In fact, I would argue that it is one of the worst movies made in a long time. The plot of Blindness is, without a doubt, one of the most disturbing and twisted stories ever concocted.

Crossing the Quad last Thursday, the 21-plus crowd was literally shouting about the beginning of the Boston College Pub Series. There was so much enthusiasm - all for one evening of drinking in the Rat. If everyone would be there, and Boston College was actually going to serve alcohol on campus affordably, why not attend? The evening held potential, as my Dad would always rave about his evenings in the Rat after a BC victory over Holy Cross.

I went into Boston Friday night for dinner and a movie, seeking a relaxed evening after a stressful week. Wandering the South End near the Back Bay station, my companion and I came across a restaurant called Firefly, and it provided just the quiet atmosphere we were looking for.

If for some reason you didn't know Gwen Ifill, exectuvie producer and moderator of PBS's Washington Week in Review, you sure do now, following last Thursday's vice presidential debate, which was the highest-rated one in history. Ifill's job as moderator had its fair share of controversy, as her first book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, which is to be released on Inauguration Day, has a lot riding on this presidential election.

1. Saturday Night Live Weekend Update - The presidential election always brings out the best work from SNL's writers, so this time around, NBC has given them an extra half hour every Thursday this month to burn off all their remaining "John McCain is old" jokes.
