The only thing left to assume at this point is that Britney Spears is crazy. After Spears took only eight of the required 14 drug tests, one resulted in what Spears' lawyers are calling a "false positive." TMZ has reported that Spears' explanation was that the false positive was caused by an inhaler drug, Albuterol. Albuterol, however, would not show up on a court-ordered drug test according to TMZ. Yesterday, sources close to Spears told TMZ that the positive result was caused by Provigil, a treatment for narcolepsy. Like Albuterol, Provigil would not show up on the drug test unless the court was looking for it specifically.
Maybe Spears' "narcolepsy" is her excuse for truly horrendous driving. Another infraction occurred on Nov. 9 when she ran a red light with her sleeping children in the backseat. Kevin Federline is now requesting an emergency hearing by the end of the week asking that Spears not be allowed to drive with the children in the car. Spears' attorney excuses the actions, claiming, "She was being mobbed by paparazzi at the time. She was distracted." There is an easy solution: Please, Britney, hire a driver!
In much sadder news, Kanye West's mother, Donda, passed away on Saturday as a result of "complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure." West and his family ask for "privacy during this time of grief." Donda was a retired professor and former chairwoman of the Chicago State University English department.
In a formal statement, West has asked that condolences be expressed through donations to the Kanye West Foundation's initiative, Loop Dreams Teacher Training Institute.
It has been discovered over the past few days that Dr. Jan Adams, the doctor who performed a tummy tuck and a breast reduction on Donda, has quite a spotty past. He has been sued for malpractice on 13 separate occasions and lost twice, paying a total of $467,337 in 2001. Driving under the influence appears in the doctor's history twice. In 2003, he was placed on three years probation, and in 2006 he was sentenced to 96 hours in jail along with 60 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. To make matters worse, the executive director of the California Medical Board asked the state to consider revoking his physician and surgeon's certificate in April 2007. With West's celebrity and tough-guy status, I doubt Adams will get off easy.
