Thumbs Up ACC Championship: The defense stepped up, and Matt Ryan finished the job as the Eagles knocked off Clemson in Death Valley to advance to the ACC championship game. It took some more late game heroics by Ryan, who again etched his name into BC lore with a touchdown pass to put the Eagles ahead for good, 20-17.
BC Student Investment Club: A recent article on TheStreet.com headlined "Boston College 'Goes Long' in the Stock Market," highlights "BC's largest student group, with about 500 members," managing an investment portfolio of approximately $360,000. The Investment Club continues to bring prestige to the Carroll School of Management, showing that our savvy undergrads have the business acumen to outperform their benchmark, the S&P 500. The article notes that BC "is a financial superstar and former manager of the Fidelity Magellan Fund, Peter Lynch's [undergraduate] alma mater, and it's the home of the thriving Boston College Investment Club."
Things to do: A solid round of shows this weekend, including the Acoustics, Hello Shovelhead!, the Battle of the Bands, and Nights on the Heights, as well as several great sporting events, brought the campus to life, offering something for everyone to do.
Thanksgiving Break: Just when you thought you can't take the overwhelming amount of tests, papers, and group projects, a Turkey-filled holiday weekend comes to the rescue.
Top Journalists at BC: The Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities' annual symposium, held at BC, brought a number of high-profile leaders to campus, including three Pulitzer Prize-winners among the reporters and editors from The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Wall Street Journal, and Atlantic Monthly. Having such a star-studded lineup on campus is a compliment to the University.
Snow!: Love it or hate it, the first flakes of the season are expected to fall today, ringing in the winter season. Although there will be no accumulation (sorry, no snowmen yet), here's a perfect invitation to cozy up someplace warm and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
Thumbs Down Where's the one-way sign on Campanella Way?: The main inroad to campus is a two-laned, one-way road. That means drivers should stick to their lane and pass on the left, as normal. It also means you shouldn't use it as an exit. To prevent frustrating confrontations (aka road rage) and potential accidents, BC should post a sign indicating that it's a one-way drive.
Confusing Boston Signage: A recent feature in the Globe shows just hard it is to navigate Boston. Instead of helping, some of Boston's signs actually make it more confusing. Boston has it all: some signs have trees intentionally planted in front of them, some are impossible to read with 20-20 vision, some are at the absolute list second before turn off, and some just point you in the wrong direction all together. If you're a visitor, you will get lost. If you have been here for some time, chances are you will get tripped up, too.
