The Eagles continued their great play at home this season with wins over Virginia Tech and Virginia.

Boston College volleyball went into this weekend's back-to-back ACC games against Virginia Tech and Virginia coming off a sweep by Miami. The Eagles rebounded well and beat both opponents 3-2.

The match on Saturday went back and forth between BC and Virginia. BC won the first game 30-26; the Cavaliers took the second 30-19; the Eagles won the third 30-27; UVA held on, winning game four 30-27; the match ended with BC holding off Virginia to win 15-12.

The final game of Friday night's match against Virginia Tech featured six match-point opportunities, five of which were BC's. Senior captain Abigail Hasebroock's block made the score 19-18. Junior Brittany Pierpont followed with a service ace to win the game 20-18 and the match 3-2.

Virginia Tech pulled ahead in a close first game to win 30-26 and won the next 31-29. BC quickly overcame the Hokies' small lead in the beginning of the third game and led for most of the game, winning 30-25. The fourth game went back and forth ending in a win for the Eagles 30-27.

BC did what they have been doing all year: coming back with solid final games. Coach Andrea Leonard said, "It was kind of the end we were looking for. We had kind of a slow start, but we always end with a fight. That is important, especially at home."

Leonard expressed pride in her seniors, "I am really impressed with the seniors. Abigail, Kelsey [Johnson], and Kristin [Whalley] really stepped up and made plays when we needed. They also brought a sense of determination, which has an effect on the team."

Senior captain Johnson recorded her 14th double-double of the season on Friday, with a match-high 24 kills and 14 digs. That performance set her up to break the school record for career kills on Saturday night.

Johnson scored her 1,422rd kill (part of her 15th double-double), passing Deanna Herman's 1,402 set in 1996.

Pierpont also scored double-doubles both nights, with 40 assists and tied for team-high 18 digs on Friday and match-high 58 assists and 16 digs on Saturday. Freshman Cathy Quilco matched Pierpont with 18 digs against Virginia Tech and totaled a match-high 33 digs against UVA. Junior Tori Thompson recorded a double-double on Saturday with 15 kills and 12 digs.

BC improved to 14-16, 8-12 in the ACC this weekend. The Eagles are 11-2 at Power Gymnasium this season. Leonard said, "We talked about how we have four matches at home to end the season, and we have a chance to finish much better than last year." The Eagles are now gearing up to their last two games (both at home) against Georgia Tech and Clemson, third and first in the ACC respectively.
